Galway is
a county, an experience to be savoured and remembered.
Medieval Galway City is a
whirlwind of activity. Don't miss the Galway Arts Festival - a vibrant
visual spectacle and continually innovative.
Outside the city attractions
include the Aran Islands with the Dún Aonghusa fort and fabled stone wall
network. Connemara is celebrated for its ethereal beauty and has lots to
see. At Dan O'Hara's Homestead, the Connemara history and heritage centre
provides an insight into this wild and lyrical land, while nearby Connemara
National Park and the magnificent Kylemore Abbey are 'must sees'.
Coole Park & Visitor Centre, once the home of Lady Gregory, is now a nature
reserve. Brigit's Garden near Oughterard has 11 acres of native woodland and
wildflower meadow.
Galway East a quiet, low lying landscape interlaced with stone walls,
attractions such as Athenry Castle & Heritage Centre, hidden pearls like the
pre-Christian Turoe Stone, Clonfert Cathedral, Dartfield Horse Museum and
Portumna Forest Park.
While the Galway Races, Galway International Oyster Festival and the
Clarenbridge Oyster Festival compete as the social events of the season,
there's lots more on offer for you to see and do such as medieval banquets
at Dunguaire Castle; a visit to the Ocean & Country Visitor Centre,
Glengowla Mines or indeed the Ballinasloe Horse Fair, one of the most
ancient gatherings in the region.
The first Ironman event in Ireland, Ironman 70.3 Series will take place in
Galway, on September 4th 2011.

Visitor Attractions
Athenry Castle
Athenry is one of Ireland's most notable surviving medieval walled towns and
owes its foundation to Meiler de Bermingham who built Athenry Castle in
c.1250. The great three-storey tower which now houses an audio visual area
and exhibition is surrounded by defensive walls and is accessed at
first-floor level through an unusual decorated doorway.
Open: Easter to 30th September: Daily 10.00 - 18.00. 1st October to 29th
October: Monday to Thursday only, 10.00 - 18.00. Last admission 45 minutes
before closing. Season: April to October.
Admission: Adult: €3, Child/Student: €1, Senior/Group: €2, Family: €8.
Connemara National Park
Connemara National Park is situated inthe West of Ireland in County Galway
and covers almost 3,000 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of bogs,
heaths, grasslands and woodlands. It is one of six National Parks in Ireland
managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The park facilities
include an exhibition, Diamond Hill walks, AV Theatre, playground, tea
rooms, picnic area and toilets. The grounds are open all year and the
visitor centre is open from March to October. The visitor centre is also
wheelchair friendly.
Open: Daily 09.00 - 17.30, March - October. Note: Opening details are
subject to change.
Admission: Free of charge.
Dunguaire Castle
Dunguaire Castle is situated on the southern shore of Galway Bay, in
thepretty village of Kinvara. The restored castle gives an insight into the
lifestyle of the people who lived here from 1520 to modern times. By night
the castle hosts banquets comprising a delicious four course dinner with
wine in a truly intimate setting. The castle entertainers will enthral you
with extracts from the works of the great Irish literary writers - Yeats,
Shaw, O'Casey and Synge. Reservations are necessary for the banquets.
Open: End of April to September. 10.00 - 17.00. Last admission at 16.30.

Thoor Ballylee
W.B Yeats, Nobel Prize winner, poet and Senator, bought this ancient Norman
Tower and adjoining cottages in 1917. Thoor Ballylee tells the story of the
life and times of W.B. Yeats via an audio-visual presentation available in
seven languages. Enjoy the lovely riverside walk and picnic area on the
grounds and the tower rooftop provides one of the best views in the county.
The Tower inspired two of his greatest books of poetry "The Tower" & "The
Winding Stair".

La ciudad medieval de Galway ofrece un sinfín de actividades. No se pierda

Castillo Dunguaire
